Title: That’s My Agni!
Fandom: Kuroshitsuji
Characters: Soma, Agni, and Sebastian
Table/Prompt: Pile of books challenge/ 04
Words: 300
Rating: PG
Warnings: none
Summary: Prince Soma is annoyed Sebastian is flirting with Agni
Author’s notes: written for 5 Prompt’s “pile of books challenge” & fanfic bake-off’s “foolish” prompt.

Prince Soma sat in the townhouse’s window seat and watched as his beloved khansama, Agni, tidied the room in the window’s reflection. It was a dreary spring day in a week of them and he was tired of what he liked to call “the English monsoons.” Not even his little friend Ciel’s presence was a distraction from his boredom. The only bright spot was his beloved khansama, Agni, was happy to have his friend Sebastian visit. Although, after a week, even that was beginning to lose its luster, especially when he noticed that Sebastian was flirting with Agni.

He narrowed his eyes when Sebastian entered the front parlor and walked over to Agni. Soma watched as the two of them spoke quietly amongst themselves. He felt his anger growing when Agni laughed at something his friend said. Get away, thought the prince. Far away, you stupid butler… That’s my Agni! Soma stared out the window, lost in thought and it was several minutes before he realized Sebastian was talking to him. He nearly jumped out of his skin at the malicious look on the man’s face he saw reflected in the window. “Yes…?”

“I said, ‘tea is served in the conservatory and I made some jalabis that I hope you will like,’” Sebastian said with a slight bow of his head. He smiled at the prince while he waited for his answer.

“Oh… Tell Ciel I’ll be right there,” Soma said. He smiled wanly at him as he turned around to face him.

“As you wish.” Sebastian turned to go.

The prince watched him go before he stood up and walked over to Agni. “Come, Agni,” he said as he walked over to him. “It’s tea time.”

“Yes, my prince.” Agni smiled and Soma felt foolish at doubting his loyalty…

Title: A Step Towards Freedom
Fandom: Kuroshitsuji
Characters: Soma, Meena and Harold West
Table/Prompt: Pile of books challenge/ 05
Words: 300
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Summary: Meena accepts Harold’s proposal, only to have the moment ruined by Soma...
Author’s notes: written for 5 Prompt’s “pile of books challenge” & fanfic bake-off’s “foolish” prompt.

Damn him for making me smile…Meena thought as the corners of her mouth twitched upwards. What is it about him that makes my heart all fluttery…? He’s English… I’m Indian… He’s a lord and a very rich man… and I’m just a servant and yet, he wants me to be his wife…She shyly looked up at him.

“Well?” Harold West said as he took her hands in his. “”Will you marry me and leave this place, Meena?”

“I… ummm…” She licked her lips as words failed her. “I…” Meena started again, when she saw Soma hurrying toward them. “Yes! I will be your wife.” She smiled. “But now I must go and tend to his needs. If you’ll excuse me?” she said as she slipped past him towards the prince. “Prince Soma? Is something wrong?”

“No… I was just looking for you,” Soma said, feeling suddenly foolish. He had been so sure the stupid Englishman was harassing his beloved maidservant and yet, Meena gave no sign of being upset. Instead, he got the distinct impression she was irritated with him for disturbing her, although she would never voice such sentiments out loud.

“You have found me,” Meena said softly. “Is there something you need?” Besides leaving me alone…

“No…” Soma looked from one to the other, not liking the frown on Harold’s face. “Ummm… You haven’t seen Agni, have you?”

“Yes,” Harold said, before Meena could reply. “I believe I saw him in the courtyard, playing chess with your grandfather.”

“Oh…” Soma smiled ingratiatingly. “I guess I’d better go there…”

“That would seem a wise course of action, your highness,” Harold replied.

“Yes…” Soma said. He had the distinct impression he was being dismissed and it rankled. Narrowing his eyes at him, Soma left, pausing when he heard Meena laugh…

Title: The Cobra
Fandom: Kuroshitsuji
Characters: Soma /Agni
Table/Prompt: Pile of books challenge/ 08
Words: 300
Rating: PG
Warnings: mention of character death
Summary: prince Soma & Agni go to the marketplace to see the old snake charmer…
Author’s notes: Lady Manasa is a Hindu goddess who worshiped as a protector against snake bite & diseases like small pox
Author’s notes 2: written for 5 Prompt’s “pile of books challenge” & fanfic bake-off’s “foolish” prompt.

People tried to reach the old snake charmer, but it was too late. His movements had been too slow and the cobra bit him while the crowd watched in horror. People shrieked in terror as the snake slithered towards them. As they scrambled out of the way, they nearly ran into Prince Soma and Agni. The two had been standing on the fringe edge of the crowd, hoping to see the old snake charmer, and they had been spared watching his death. Now in the confusion, the angry cobra slithered into the crowd and the prince and his khansama were in danger of getting bit as well.

Agni, fearing for his beloved prince’s life, grabbed his hand and foolishly ran along with the crowd until Soma tripped and fell.

“Agni…” Soma said softly as the cobra slowly slithered towards him.

“Be still, my prince. If you don’t move, he won’t hurt you.”

“I’m afraid, Agni…” the prince whispered.

“I know, but the Lady Manasa is watching over you, so there’s no need to be afraid.” Agni kept his eyes on the snake as he prayed to the goddess in his head. The cobra was angry and likely to bite someone else if provoked. It reared up, flaring its hood and hissing loudly and Agni felt a moment of fear as Soma was within the snake’s striking distance. It was all he could do to keep his right hand from twitching as once false move and Soma would surely get bitten and die a horribly painful death.

Suddenly the snake relaxed and slithered away from them. They breathed a sigh of relief as Agni knelt beside Soma. “Are you okay, my prince?”

“I think so…”

Agni helped him to his feet. “Let’s go home?”

Soma nodded. “Come, Agni.”

“Yes, my prince…”

Title: Sunday Morning
Fandom: Kuroshitsuji
Characters: Soma/Agni
Table/Prompt: Pile of books challenge/ 09
Words: 300
Rating: PG
Warnings: none
Summary: Soma wakes up early…
Author’s notes: written for 5 Prompt’s “pile of books challenge” & fanfic bake-off’s “foolish” prompt.

When I woke up on Sunday morning, it was just turning light and the room looked odd with its strange shadows unlike my room at home. Feeling a sharp stab of fear, I looked over to the right, foolishly thinking Agni wasn’t there. That I had dreamed the whole thing and he was downstairs in the servant’s quarters, but I was happily proven wrong. We now had Ciel’s townhouse to ourselves, which meant Agni was free to sleep with me as long as my little friend and his butler weren’t there.

I was also starting my first day as the townhouse’s new governor. I never had a job before; as a prince, I didn’t need one… but I wanted to be a great man, who could stand on his own two feet and my dear friend, Ciel, nicely gave me this one. I’m scared I’ll mess up, but I do have Agni to help me. Besides, I’ve seen that idiot Englishman West in action as the governor of Bengal, as if my father suddenly needed help looking after his kingdom, and he did nothing but chase after my poor Meena. So how hard can it be?

When Agni rolled onto his side to face me, I turned away from him and a few minutes later, I felt his strong arm around me, holding me close. I always feel so safe and loved when he does that, and I sigh contentedly. I know he’s a man and I shouldn’t love him the way I would love a woman, but I can’t help it. Agni loves me with a single mindedness, so why shouldn’t I love him back that intensely? Besides, we’re far away from the wagging tongues in the palace. As long as we keep to ourselves no one will care.

Title: In Search of Meena
Fandom: Kuroshitsuji
Characters: Soma/Agni
Table/Prompt: Pile of books challenge/ 12
Words: 300
Rating: G
Warnings: mildly spoilerish for the start of the curry arc
Summary: Soma and Agni
Author’s notes: written for 5 Prompt’s “pile of books challenge” & fanfic bake-off’s “foolish” prompt.

Soma cried out in alarm when one of the men grabbed his arm. Agni quickly dealt with the matter, begging the unconscious man for forgiveness and all was right again in Soma’s world. Regaining his composure, Soma held up his drawing of Meena and said in Hindi, “Has anyone seen this woman?”

The rest of the Indians shook their heads, a few of the braver ones risking a soft, “No, sir…”

So they continued their search of London’s East End, where the disenfranchised Indian immigrants lived in squalor. Agni hated the area, as they were often accosted by their own people, but since they had no choice but to remain there as they were thrown out of establishments more in keeping with Soma’s princely title. Frustrated, they continued their foolish quest none-the-less in the hope that maybe this would be the day they would find her.

Rounding a corner, they came upon a group of Indians and pair of Englishmen. Agni got the distinct impression trouble was brewing, but before he could stop him and suggest a new course of action, Soma interfered.

“Quiet down!” the prince cried. “I’m looking for someone.” Soma held up his drawing of Meena. “Have you seen this woman?”

“How dare you interrupt, you cur!” one of Indians said and when Soma answered him back, Agni went on alert.

Agni found himself battling the Englishmen one minute and his fellow countrymen the next as the situation went from dangerous to bazaar. It was soon over as the Indians were more talk than fight and the English khansama also a big help. As much as he wanted to get to know him better, Agni knew Soma was impatient to continue his foolish quest.

“Farewell… Come, Agni,” Soma said, before they headed off in a new direction…
