For Kat with love…

“Come, boys, let’s go out and cut some pine boughs for the windows,” Germania said as he pulled on his cloak.

“Hey, Vati! Can we get a tree too?” Prussia said as he tugged on his boots.

“Tomorrow, we’ll get the tree,” Germania said. He sat baby Germany down and put on his boots. “Onkle Roma is coming over with his grandsons and he said he’d help me carry it.”

“I’m big now and I can help you!” Prussia insisted.

“Then you can look after Die Kleinen for us while we’re gone.”

“Awe…” Prussia pouted as he reached for his cloak. “I don’t want to take care of a bunch of babies.”

“Prussia, I need someone I can trust to look after them.”

“Yeah?” Prussia looked up at his father.

Germania nodded. “Now put your cloak on so we can go,” he said, and taking Germany’s hand, he walked to the door.

“Wait for me, Vati!” Prussia cried as he threw on his cloak & hurried after them.

They left the house and headed out into the snow filled landscape. Not far from where they lived was a grove of pine trees and while his children played in the snow, Germania cut several boughs off of one of the trees. He also looked for a good tree to cut down and bring inside. Germania heaved a long suffering sigh when he heard his youngest start crying. “Prussia, why is your Bruder crying?” He had his answer a few seconds later when a snowball hit him in the back of his head. “PRUSSIA!”

“What, Vati?”

“Are you throwing snowballs at Germany?”Germania said. SPLAT! Another snowball hit him.

“No, Vati! We’re playing war!” Prussia lobbed another snowball at Germany, hitting him.

Germany sat in the snow and wailed.

“Prussia if you don’t stop it right now, I’m going to cut me a switch!”

“Yes, Vati!” Prussia grinned at him.

Germania sighed. “You know, the Krampus knows when you’re naughty.”

“He does?” Prussia blinked.

Germania nodded. He waited a few minutes to make sure his eldest was going to behave, before going back to cutting down more pine boughs. Satisfied he had enough, Germania gathered them up. “Prussia, take your Bruder’s hand and let’s go.”

The three of them headed back to the house. Once there, they went inside and took off their cloaks. Germania hung them up. He also got his children out of their wet clothes and into dry ones. He fixed Germany a bottle of goat’s milk and put him down for a nap. He came back to the main living area of his house to find a trail of pine needles all over the floor.

“Look, Vati! I helped you while you were busy with Germany!” Prussia beamed as he pointed to the windows.

Germania, who was about to yell at him, smiled instead. “Danke, Prussia.” He walked over to his son and hugged him.

Gerne, Vati!” Prussia hugged him back. “Vati? You think the Krampus’ll come?”

“No.”

“Good!”
