Summary: Prussia visits India & soaks up some of the local color...
Author’s note: Holi is a Hindu festival celebrated in the spring. One of the aspects of this festival, which is known to Westerners, is the throwing of colored powder, where people end up looking like a living rainbow.

India lit a few sticks of incense. He breathed in the spicy scent and said a brief prayer to the gods. As he was finishing his devotions, there was a knock on the door. India went to answer it. He smiled when he opened the door and saw his friend. “Namaste, Prussia!”

“Umm… Namaste, India!” Prussia grinned and entered the house.

“I’m so glad you could make it,” India said as he closed the door behind them.

“I’m sorry, I wasn’t able to get here yesterday, but my flight to Munich was delayed and I missed my flight over here. West had to pull some strings to get me over here today. So what are we going to do?”

“That’s okay, my friend.” India led him to the guest room in his house. “Have you eaten?” When Prussia nodded, he added, “Then let’s get you changed into a kurta and churidars and go.”

“Be right back.” India left the room and returned a few minutes later with the clothes. He handed them to Prussia. “Hurry, my friend, and get dressed.”

“White, India? I’m going to look like a ghost in this. Where’s the color?”

India smiled. “Today is our holiday of Holi. You’ll soon have all the color you can want and then some.”

“Here, take this.” India handed Prussia a bag of colored powder.

They left India’s house and entered the streets. The two of them got halfway down the block when a group of boys ran up to them and pelted them with colored powder.

“Hey!” Prussia cried, his face and hair various shades of pink, yellow, and orange.

India, who was just as colorful, tried hard not to laugh. “It’s how you celebrate.”

“Oh…” Now that he had more of idea of what was going, Prussia really got into it and was having the time of his life. He and India ran through the streets. Pelting young people with colored powder, they gently smeared the color on any older individuals they encountered. Prussia found he had never had so much fun in his life, but after a while he got tired of everyone throwing color at him as well as being somewhat jet lagged.

“Come, we’ll hide in here for awhile,” India said as he led Prussia towards a temple. India lit some incense when they stepped inside. It was very quiet and dark inside, and very peaceful. He felt at home here, despite not being a holy man and he hoped Prussia liked it. One look at his friend, and India could see by the look on his face that he did.

“It smells good in here.”

“It’s the incense. I think it’s sandalwood.”

“I like it. Do you think we can buy some for me to take home?”

“Of course we can, my friend. I hope you’ll stay for a while so I can show you around.”

“That’d be awesome!” Prussia grinned. “Maybe you’ll come visit me too.”

“I’d like that, Prussia.”
