Summary: Prussia helps Austria get ready for his Hanukah party…

“Tell me again why I’m standing here peeling enough potatoes to feed Fritz’s army for a week?” Prussia grumbled.

“It’s not that many potatoes.” Austria sighed. “Besides, you promised to help me.”

“I didn’t promise you shit!” Prussia said when it hit him. “Oh…”

“Yeah, and she’s going to hold you to that promise.”

Austria nodded. “It’s not my fault, Prussia; you tend to think with your balls and not with your head when it comes to her.”

Prussia felt his cheeks heating up. What made it worse was Austria had a point. He did tend to do as Hungary asked simply because he liked her… a lot. He sighed softly, swallowing the angry retort he was going to hurl at his friend and rival. “Damned aristocrat!” he muttered under his breath.

“I heard that.”

Prussia glared at him.

“Anyway, are you finished peeling those yet?”

“Yeah.” Prussia brought over a large pot filled with cool salt water and potatoes, after throwing the peels out and wiping the counter.

“Thanks.” Austria took a potato and dropped it into the food processor’s chute. The whirling blade quickly shredded the potato. “And thanks for the food processor,” Austria said as he added another potato.

“You’re welcome, Specs.”

“It’ll make this go a lot faster… Can you cut those potatoes in half the long way? I also need you to peel a couple of onions and cut them in quarters.”

Prussia nodded. He took a knife from the drawer, and grabbing a cutting board, he did as he was bidden. Between the two of them, the made short work of shredding the potatoes and onions. It was not long before Austria had a pot full of the potato mixture. Adding some pepper and more salt, Austria also added a touch of garlic powder.

“It makes them taste better.”

“Hey, I’m not complaining.” Prussia walked over to the fridge. “How many eggs do you want?”

Austria thought for a minute. “Four should be good and I need the flour too.” He mixed everything together in the large pot, using his hands to get to the bottom.

Meanwhile Prussia got out the old cast-iron skillet. He chuckled softly to himself, recalling all the times he and France had been on the receiving of a whack to the head with it. Prussia placed it on the stove and heated it up. After a few minutes, he added some olive oil. “Specs, I think the oil’s ready.”

“Okay,” Austria said. Taking a bit of the potato mixture, he shaped it into a small pancake and dropped it in the oil. In that manner they made latkas for the party, letting them drain on a tea towel, before putting them on a platter.

“It’s starting to smell like Hanukah.”

“Yeah. Thanks for your help.”

“You’re welcome. So when can I eat them?”

“Not until the party.”

Austria sniffed. “Everyone should be arriving soon.”

“Good, cuz I’m hungry.”

“You’re always hungry.”

“But your latkas are good.”
