Title: Astral Traveler
Rating: PG
Author: kira
Chars/Pairs: Ludwig (Germany), Sakura (fem!Japan)
Genres: SciFi, Human AU
Warnings: none, except some cheesy references to Dr Who, Quantum Leap, Supernatural, Fruits Basket, and Alien
Word Count: 523
Summary: Ludwig is trying to get back to the mother-ship and spends time with the shuttlecraft’s holographic interface…

For Sammie…

“The Past, the Present, and the Future are the same, Ludwig,” Sakura said. A hologram, she reached for her pretend tea and sipped it. “It is all relative and wibbly wobbly timey whimey,” she added, quoting one of the many entertainment programs in the shuttlecraft’s computer, which was in a sense herself.

Ludwig smiled.

“And let’s not forget, your brain is like Swiss cheese,” she said, making another reference to another program.

“You’re not going to call me ‘Sam,’ are you?”

“Only if you call me ‘Dean.’ ”

Ludwig laughed. “Fair enough, Miss Honda.”

Sakura raised an eyebrow at that. “Keep that up, and I’ll start calling you ‘Yuki.’”

Ludwig shook his head and held up his hands. “Okay, you win.” He drank his coffee. “So, how long until we rendezvous with the mother-ship?”

Sakura cocked her head to the side as she did the calculations. “Barring anything unforeseen, three hours, twenty-five minutes, and forty two seconds.”

Ludwig nodded. “So tell me about yourself, Miss… Miss Sakura.”

“I am a Honda computer model number seven four three one five holographic interface. I was originally designed by Honda Kiku back in twenty-five thirteen for Sony Rocket Corporation for use in their interstellar spaceship program. My holographic interface was designed by Feliciano Vargas, who thought anime girls were ‘cute.’ His partner, Alfred Jones, concurred and I’ve been wearing this face every since. However, your brother Gilbert has ‘tinkered,’ as he puts it, with my matrix and I can now display a variety of faces, some alien, if you prefer. I can even become ‘male’ if you wish, although, it had been proven that humans prefer a ‘female’ voice over ‘male’ when it comes to computers.”

“Thank you, Sakura, but that’s not what I meant.”

Sakura cocked her head to the side again. “I am sorry, Ludwig, I am afraid I do not understand what it is you want from me.”

Ludwig sighed softly, although the trip Regulous-5 and back was uneventful, it was rather long, and he missed being on board the mother-ship and its mostly human crew. While Sakura was a pretty “girl,” and very much like him in temperament, Ludwig longed for his girlfriend, Daisy, who was ditzy, emotional, and very human. “Nothing,” he said as he reached for his coffee. He finished it and set the cup down. “I have to get back to Navigation. Thanks for company, Miss Sakura.”

“You are welcome, Ludwig. Do you want me to transfer control of the shuttlecraft to you now?”

“Let me get up there, first.” He stood up to go.

“As you wish.” She winked out of existence.

Ludwig sighed and walked the few steps to Navigation and sat down at the controls. As the shuttlecraft flew through the vastness of space, he pondered what Sakura had said. Perhaps it was all just different versions of “Now.” Then he remembered something else she had said to him when the shuttlecraft went to Red Alert as he crossed into a rip in the Space Time Continuum and his Past, Present, and Future all converged, while moving apart.

“In space, no one can hear you scream…”

Oh my, this was a little terrifying - for how well you allude to the vast loneliness of space, if for nothing else. Is the last line from the movie, "Event Horizon"? - speaking of terrifying... *shudder* That movie scared the bejesus outta me in the theatre, I remember. (0.0)

I liked it - it's very unusual with your other works, and I love that! Great job! :D

Yeah? XD kira likes watching stuff like Star Trek, Star Wars,

No, it's from "Alien" that movie with Sigourney Weaver. (which kira never saw. XD) I never saw "Event-Horizon" Was it really scary? o.0 kira HATES scary movies. XD

YAY! I'm sooo glad you did! Thanks! You know you can pick a square for me to write to too. :D http://kiramaru7.livejournal.com/411596.html Right now I'm trying to get Spain & Romano to go on a trip, but I have plenty of open squares. :D

You're n0t-chan has to be in the mood for Trek (and I just don't like Star Wars much at all, sorry to admit), but she likes the very fantastic sci-fi like Dune, a great deal. ;D

Ah, that's where I've heard it - your n0t-chan saw "Alien" a bunch of times because she's a huge H.R. Giger fan, the artist who designed the alien itself. (she likes twisted Swiss guys and doesn't care who knows it... LOL) Yes, "Event Horizon" is scary - it's basically "Hellraiser" in space... so, do avoid it! :D

I did! :D Pack their Latin behinds in a tiny car and hussle them off to their trip! XD Can't wait to read it! :D

Yeah? Dune is GOOD! I don't care so much for the fanfiction Frank Herbert's son has written for it. It took me a couple of books to realize he was changing the canon. *sighs*

Yeah? Aaah... :D Will do!!

I now know that. XD I have to, but right now I need to finish my "eye Candy" fic first. Then I can play with the Tomato-bastard & his lil Tomato. ;p Thanks! I can't wait to write it! *snorts* (*is in a silly mood tonight* XD)

Yeah, me neither - I preferred the first few books and mostly for the social and anthropological angles of fantasy world building and speculative fiction.

Silly is good! XD your n0t-chan kinda lives there... LOL

*nods* I remember picking up Dune after reading a Canticle for Liebowitz, & enjoying the religious angle to it. The characters are pretty awesome too! It's almost like our Madrona in a sense, which is cool. :D

Yup!! :D kira does too, but she likes to keep it on a tight leash. XD

Totally :D There's a great deal going on in that first book and it was a huge influence for me (and a gazillion others, I know). It is a great deal like Madrona, insofar as we are creating more than just a story for a character to accomplish a task with some sort of resolution; we are creating a world and shared civilization to give birth to such characters and their motives and drives... I think you're right :)

Your n0t-chan has a silly streak that (hopefully) compliments her usually hard-assed personality. Funny, the things we allow out for others to see... ;D
Jan. 9th, 2015 02:22 am (UTC)
*nods* And I find it gets better each time I read it! Yeah! And that's what's so much fun about Madrona! We're creating worlds & working to together to create this wonderful tale! Like when you & Kat hosted those special months & we got to play in those lands. :D

XD kira is sooo not a hard-ass, unless she feels someone isn't following the rules. *face palms* (sadly I face palm a lot at work XD) Yeah! :D

We should look at having more hosted events as our RL schedules allow - I deliberately made the Hidden Moon fest an occurence only every few years so it wouldn't be a requirement if ended up being too much to tackle. That was so much fun! :D

I have to work at being nice; it doesn't come naturally much at all. I envy those folks who have a kind and balanced nature, but then if you need someone to dish out some whoopass for a valid reason, I'm yer girl.
I'll bet you do! Work has a way of bringing out the best and worst in everyone, it seems. I'm surprised I have hair left after being a nurse... I thought I was going to pull it all out, every day! XD

They are fun. Moon-fest was cool, cuz I got to collab with Kat on it & make up a new character. :D I should mention it to Vexed & Jen. Maybe they have some ideas of something we could do that woudl be fun. :D

Yeah? XD You come across as very nice. <3 Awe... *huggles* That's good to know! *hands you a can of instant whoopass*

It does! The past few days have been good! We've all been laughing & have fun! Always a plus! :D

XD That's not good! I'm glad you left the field, but it says a lot about the working conditions. They need to be overhauled for everyone's sake.
