Title: Curling Up With a Good Book
Prompt: Read a good Book
Fandom: Original
Characters: Dieter, Wolfgang (Vati), Bernd
Word count: 606
Summary: Wolfgang loves to read…

Wolfgang sat on the sofa in the den, a new book in his hand. The trip to the bookstore had been a good one; he had picked up several promising titles including the one he held in his hands. Well read, he had a fondness for Tolkien and Heinlein, and when the mood hit, he was just as happy with an old Ellery Queen or Agatha Christy. He also enjoyed Steven King and the odd biography, and while he occasionally picked up one of his youngest son Didi’s romance books, he could take them or leave them. He even spent an amusing weekend reading out loud with his friend Luigi, his friend’s copy of Fifty Shades of Grey. They had only managed to get through the first two chapters, before skipping to the end and afterwards tossing the book. Both were of the agreement that the Marquis de Sade did it much better anyway.

Wolfgang opened the fifth book in George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, A Dance With Dragons and began to read. He was so engrossed in the book, that he never realized it was lunch time until Didi poked his head in and asked if he wanted anything to eat. Wolfgang looked up at him. “It’s lunch time?”

Didi nodded. “You want me to bring you something, Vati?”

“Please, Didi. Thanks,” Wolfgang said. “Whatever you’re eating is fine.” He went back to reading his book as his son left the room. He finished the chapter when by the time Didi came back. Placing a bookmark inside, Wolfgang closed the book and got up.

“Here you go, Vati,” Didi said. He handed his father a plateful of food and a beer. “Bernd said, ‘to enjoy.’”

“Tell him I said ‘thanks.””

“Will do.” Didi paused. “Do you want any company? I can go get my lunch.”

Wolfgang shook his head. “I have all the company I need in my book,” he said as he brought his lunch over to his desk.

Didi smiled. An avid reader himself, he knew exactly what his father meant. While he had just finished reading his book, he had a boxful of old Harlequin Romances that he picked up the last time the library had a sale, so picking a new one was as easy as reaching in and pulling one out. “Okay,” Didi said as he left the room.

Wolfgang walked over to where he had been sitting, and picking up his book, he walked over to his desk. He sat and took a bite of his ham sandwich. Setting it down, he wiped his hands on a napkin and opened his book. Sandwich in one hand; book in the other, he read as he ate, pausing every so often to sip his beer or have a bite of potato salad. It was not long before his lunch was finished along with his beer and another two chapters.

Twenty minutes later, his eldest son Bernd knocked, before entering. Wolfgang never even looked up from his book when his son came over to the desk and cleared away the remains of his lunch. Since Bernd knew better than to disturb his father while he was reading, he quietly came and went. Wolfgang continued to devour his book. When he was nearly halfway done, he closed it and sat back to think about what he had read. Checking his watch, he noticed it was nearly time for his grandkids to get home from school. Wolfgang smiled, as far as he was concerned, there was nothing like curling up with a good book, except playing with his grandchildren.

Nope! ;p But I LOVE to read, so writing about a character who also loves reading is fun! And that whole thing with books is why Belle is my all time fave Disney Princess. XD

Yup! :D I'm glad that you do! He's fun to write! :D

Wolfgang is a man after my own heart. I snickered at the line about de Sade doing it better.
