Sept Bingo 5: Under the Stars

Author’s Note: Thanks go out to my betas Kat for looking this over for me & Jen for giving it a first read.
Author’s Note 2: Please note that Amber belongs to Kat.

Amber wrapped her arms around Bernd as he urged Blitzkrieg forward. She carried the makings of a romantic dinner in an insulated backpack on her back, while the picnic blanket rested across her boyfriend’s lap. While the girls in class would go on and on about a candlelit dinner for two in one of the town’s fancy restaurants, Amber preferred their little picnic dinners of “schnitzis and potato salad.” They were simple and often spontaneous, but no less romantic compared to whatever those girls’ significant others did.

She and Bernd would stay until the stars came out or the mosquitoes became too much. They would lie together on the blanket and cuddle, or if they were feeling daring, would make love under the stars. Amber was willing to even put up with his whining about all the bug bites on his arse and the few she got, because it was something they did that no one else they knew did. Well, maybe their friend Denis, who claimed to be all about romancing the ladies, but Amber had a feeling he had nothing on her Bernd.

Sighing contentedly, she held on a bit tighter. Amber smiled when Bernd reached over and put his hand on hers. He briefly leaned back into her embrace and she nuzzled him. “Are we there yet?” she playfully asked.

He laughed. “Yeah.”

Amber slid off Blitzkrieg’s back. She moved away, giving Bernd some room to dismount. Hand in hand, they walked over to their usual spot as he led Blitzkrieg. While Amber set out their picnic dinner, Bernd took off his horse’s saddle and let him loose to graze while they ate dinner.

“Be right back,” Bernd said as he got up.

“Where you going?

“Over by the creek. I got something over there for us.”

Amber watched him go. He was back a few minutes later, a bucket of cold beers in his hand. Bernd sat down and handed her one.

“You’re welcome.”

They ate in companionable silence, watching the stars come out. Amber looked over at Bernd and smiled. As weird-assed as he could get at times, when it came to being romantic, Bernd knew all the little things she loved and he made a point of doing them for her. She loved him for it.

How sweet - loved the image of them together on the back of a huge fuzzy horse! The mosquitos were a great touch, the little buggers... lol

Sounds like a perfect evening out to me! :D Loved it!

Yes, that's much better than dinner in a fancy restaurant.
