Author: kira
Word Count: 229
World: Roseburg
Main Characters: Gita Chandrasekhar, Jyoti Chandrasekhar, Luke Dick, Ashok Chandrasekhar, Sitara Chandrasekhar, Shankar Chandrasekhar
Borrow: No
Summary: During a Harvestfest celebration, Gita wonders why her father’s so childish…
Author’s notes: In Madrona they are a few groups of people who are named after legendary as well as mythological people. Elves and the Amazons are two such people. Elves live in the northwest part of Madrona; they live off the land like Native Americans and other indigenous people. They’re thought to be the descendants of hippies and other free spirits.
Author’s notes 2: Special thanks to kat for letting me borrow Shankar and Luke… and also for pinking this.
Author’s notes 3: This was written in response to Brownie’s Halloween challenge; the prompt is “candy.”

Gita and Jyoti held hands as they followed their father and uncle through the bazaar that was the vendor’s area during Harvestfest, a small festival held every year in the town square to celebrate the bounty of the harvest. Their Uncle Luke had bought them some candy from the confectioner’s booth and the girls could not wait to eat it. Gita noted that apparently their father could not wait to get his share either, as he was busy pestering their uncle for some as they walked back to booth, where their mother and Uncle Shankar waited.

Gita sighed softly. It seemed the older she got; the more childish her father seemed to her. Her sister Jyoti never seemed to notice and any questions she had, were never answered by her mother. Even her uncles were silent on the subject much to her annoyance. It was not that she did not love her father, as she loved him dearly, it was just that he was odd compared to her friends’ fathers. Pushing aside her troublesome thoughts, Gita smiled and thanked her father when he handed her a piece of candy, which he somehow managed to con out of her uncle. Popping it into her mouth, she savored the taste and giggled along with her sister over what their mother would say if she knew they were enjoying a secret treat.

This whole series with Ashok and Sitara's kids is great. It's nice to get a glimpse of their family in later years.

Gita is smart and observant. The adults aren't going to be able to ignore her for long.
