Amber and Bernd were sitting there, watching Svengoolie go on about his new merchandise, before going back to the movie that he was hosting on TV. When Svengoolie mentioned a rubber chicken, Amber grinned. Bernd raised his eyebrow at her.
“You want to get those coffee mugs?” he said. “Or what about the hat?”
“The mugs are okay, but when have you ever seen me wear a baseball cap?”
Bernd shrugged. “Dunno. Why don’t I get my iPad and we can-”
“Sssh! The movie’s back on!”
He nodded and focused his attention back on the movie. Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein was his kind of horror movie as it was more funny than scary and he enjoyed watching Svengoolie’s mix of old B-movies with Amber. Still, he could not leave the idea of getting some sort of merchandise from the show as he had a feeling she would like it despite saying otherwise. He made a mental note to check out the site tomorrow.
The next morning, Bernd opened up his laptop, and instead of doing some work, he decided to check out Svengoolie’s site. As browsed the site, he came upon a rubber chicken giveaway. Chuckling softly to himself, he decided to enter, but instead of putting his own name, he used Amber’s. He hoped he could win as not only would it be an awesome surprise, but he was sure Amber would love it.
As he was not in time for October’s giveaway, Bernd shrugged and entered the November one. When the beginning of December rolled around, a box addressed to Amber came in the mail. Handing it to her, he said, “Whatcha order from MeTV?”
“I didn’t order anything,” Amber said as she opened the box. Inside was a rubber chicken. “It’s an autographed rubber chicken from Svengoolie.” She grinned.
Bernd looked surprised. “You won?”
“Yeah… And I don’t remember entering the giveaway. I know Greta and I were talking about it, but neither one of us entered as we knew we’d never in a million years win.” She gave him a knowing look.
“Oh.” Bernd felt his cheeks heating up.
Amber wrapped her arms around him. “Yeah.” She smiled and kissed his cheek. “Thanks for the late Halloween-early Christmas present.”
“You’re welcome.” He held her close, happy “she” won.
